NatHERS Existing Homes rating certificates
The Nationwide Home Energy Rating Scheme expanded in July 2025 to include ratings for Existing Homes. This will be the basis for mandatory disclosure of home energy ratings at the point of sale or lease. It is the future-ready tool of choice for guiding home upgrades.

Powered by research -- impact for good.
Michael is grounded in 11 years of hands-on residential thermal comfort and energy efficiency research at the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, University of Wollongong.
Michael led a team of 15 home assessors on the Energy+Illawarra (Low Income Energy Efficiency Program) project where he had oversight of the home assessments and recommendations of tailored retrofits for 200 homes of low-income older residents of the Greater Illawarra and Southern Highlands regions. Indoor temperatures and energy bills were compared before and after the retrofits.
He has participated in many similar residential thermal comfort and energy efficiency research projects with 150 home energy assessments personally conducted, tailored retrofit advice implemented and monitored for 270 homes, assisted with 20 blower door tests for air tightness measurement.
He is an accredited NatHERS Existing Homes assessor and an accredited Scorecard assessor.
Michael is an experienced home energy advisor with a heart to listen with care to what you want and need for your home.
Based in Wildes Meadow, near Fitzroy Falls, NSW, his core service area includes the Southern Highlands and Greater Illawarra.
Project achievements
NatHERS Existing Homes -- Cohort 1 Trial
Michael participated in the first cohort of home energy assessors to be trained to trial the NatHERS Existing Homes benchmark rating tool -- Accurate Enterprise (Existing Homes), conducting 23 home assessments in the Southern Highlands, Illawarra and Forbes regions. He was the 7th assessor nationally to be accredited under this scheme.
